North Potomac Sunday School

March 23, 2025

Led by: Melody

It was a bright and cheerful Sunday morning on March 23, 2025, as the children of North Potomac Community Church gathered for their weekly Sunday School meeting. Laughter and excitement filled the room as the kids settled in, eager to hear the lesson for the day.

Standing at the front of the room was Miss Melody, the children’s Sunday School teacher. She was known for her engaging lessons, always finding creative ways to teach the Bible through real-life stories. Today was no different.

“Good morning, everyone!” Melody greeted. “I have a special story for you today. It’s about a young woman named Emma, and I think you’re going to love it.”

The children leaned in, ready to listen.

Emma’s Journey: Dance or Cheer?

Emma, a girl from North Potomac, Maryland, had always loved to dance. Ever since she was little, she would twirl around the living room, making up routines to her favorite songs. Her family encouraged her passion, and soon, she was taking dance lessons, learning different styles like ballet, jazz, and hip-hop.

But one day, Emma heard about competitive cheerleading. The flips, the jumps, and the energy of cheerleading fascinated her. It was similar to dance in some ways but also completely different. She began to wonder, “Should I keep dancing, or should I try cheerleading?”

Her family was supportive, but her mother was a bit hesitant. “Emma, you are such a talented dancer,” her mother said. “Are you sure you want to split your focus?”

Emma thought about it for a while and decided to train for both.

She spent months working hard, balancing cheerleading and dance. She practiced her turns and leaps in dance class, then rushed to cheer practice to learn stunts and tumbling. It wasn’t easy, but Emma was determined to figure out which path was truly hers.

Finding Her True Calling

After a year of training, Emma realized something—as much as she loved cheerleading, her heart belonged to dance.

She felt the most joy when she was dancing, and she loved expressing emotions through movement. She prayed about it, and one verse kept coming to mind:

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” – Psalm 150:6

Dance felt like worship to Emma. She decided to fully dedicate herself to it.

With her new focus, Emma took her skills to the next level. She didn’t just dance—she started teaching others. She became a coach for a local dance team, helping young dancers improve their skills and build confidence.

She was happy and fulfilled, knowing she had chosen the right path.

The Big Competition – and a Surprise

Then came the biggest moment of the year—the regional dance competition. Emma and her team had been practicing for months, and they were ready to give their best performance.

But as they arrived at the venue, Emma saw a familiar face—her former cheerleading rival, Olivia.

The kids in Sunday School gasped.

“That’s right,” Melody said, smiling. “Olivia wasn’t just at the competition—she was a judge!”

Emma was shocked. She and Olivia had competed against each other in the past, and Olivia had always been tough competition. Now, Emma and her team had to face Olivia’s team in the final round.

It was an intense competition. Both teams performed with skill, energy, and passion. Emma’s team danced their hearts out, giving a performance that felt like pure joy.

Then, after much anticipation, the judges announced the results…

Emma’s team won!

The kids cheered.

“Emma had worked so hard,” Melody continued, “and in the end, her dedication paid off. But do you know what made it even better?”

The children shook their heads.

“Olivia, her old rival, walked up to her after the competition. Instead of being upset, she smiled and said, ‘You and your team deserved that win. I can see how much you love what you do.’”

Emma felt proud, not just of the victory, but of how far she had come. She had found her true calling, and even her former competitor could see it.

Lesson from Emma’s Story

Melody clapped her hands together. “So, what do you think we can learn from Emma’s journey?”

One child raised a hand. “That we should do what we love?”

“Exactly!” Melody said. “Emma didn’t let anyone else decide for her. She explored both dance and cheerleading, but in the end, she chose what God had placed on her heart.”

She opened her Bible and read:

“Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12

“Emma was young, but she didn’t let that stop her from coaching a team and inspiring others. God can use anyone—no matter how young—to do great things.

Another child raised a hand. “But what about Olivia? Wasn’t she mad that Emma’s team won?”

Melody shook her head. “That’s a great question! You see, even though Olivia and Emma were rivals before, Olivia respected Emma’s hard work. When we shine our light for God, others notice.

She turned to another verse:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” – Matthew 5:14

“Emma shined her light by being kind, working hard, and following her calling. In the end, even Olivia saw that light.”

Tying It All Together

Melody then pulled out a tablet and showed the children a website: DanceSpirit.com.

“This website has stories and tips for dancers,” she explained. “Just like Emma learned more about dance from great teachers, we can learn more about our passions and use them for God’s glory.”

She smiled at the children. “Maybe you love to dance, sing, play sports, draw, or do something else special. Whatever it is, know that God gave you those talents for a reason. And just like Emma, you can use them to inspire others!”

A Final Thought

As the Sunday School lesson came to an end, Melody gave the children a challenge.

“This week,” she said, “I want you to think about what you love to do. Pray about it, and ask God how you can use it to bring Him glory. And remember—you are never too young to make a difference!

The kids nodded excitedly, already thinking about their own talents and dreams.

As they left the room, Melody smiled, knowing that today’s lesson had planted seeds of faith, confidence, and purpose in their hearts. Just like Emma, they too had a race to run—and God would guide them every step of the way.

Towson Community Bible Study, Maryland

March 18, 2025

Led by: Millie

On the evening of March 18, 2025, a small but eager group gathered in the fellowship hall of Towson Grace Church for their weekly Bible study. The room was filled with warmth as people found their seats, greeting each other with smiles and small talk. At the front stood Millie, a longtime member of the church, known for her wisdom and passion for teaching God’s Word.

“Tonight,” Millie began, “I want to share a story that I think will encourage all of us, no matter where we are in our journey of faith.”

She paused for a moment, then continued, “This is the story of Lily, a young woman from right here in Towson, Maryland, who learned a powerful lesson about perseverance, purpose, and selflessness.”

Lily’s Race of Faith

Lily had always been a runner. From the time she was a little girl, she loved the feeling of the wind rushing past her as her feet hit the pavement. Running gave her joy, freedom, and confidence. Over the years, she began competing in races, always dreaming of pushing herself further. One day, she set her sights on something bigger—a triathlon.

But there was one problem. A triathlon wasn’t just about running. It required cycling and swimming as well, and Lily had never trained in either.

Not wanting to give up on her dream, she sought advice from a local trainer, who encouraged her to start cycling. This new challenge excited her, and she quickly embraced the training. But swimming? That was another story.

Swimming made her nervous. She had never been confident in the water, and every training session left her exhausted and discouraged. Doubts crept in. “Maybe I’m not cut out for this,” she thought.

But Lily’s family wouldn’t let her quit. “You’ve come this far,” her mother told her. “God doesn’t give us dreams without also giving us the strength to pursue them.”

Encouraged by her loved ones, Lily kept going. She trained tirelessly, day after day, pushing herself beyond what she thought was possible.

Months passed. The big race was drawing near. And while Lily had improved tremendously, she knew deep down that swimming remained her weakest link. Still, she refused to let fear define her. Instead, she found another way to make an impact.

She began coaching others in triathlon training, especially those who, like her, struggled with certain aspects of the sport. She helped them develop their endurance, encouraged them when they wanted to quit, and showed them that faith and perseverance go hand in hand.

Her first team trained hard under her guidance, and when they competed in a local event, they performed exceptionally well. Seeing her team succeed filled Lily with a sense of purpose greater than personal victory. She wasn’t just training for herself anymore—she was inspiring others to believe in themselves.

The Unexpected Challenge

Finally, race day arrived. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as competitors prepared for the challenge ahead. Lily felt nervous but ready. She had trained, she had prayed, and she had given it her all.

The starting horn sounded, and off she went. She powered through the swimming portion, pushed through the cycling stage, and reached the final leg—the run. This was her strength. This was her moment.

But then, just as she hit her stride, something unexpected happened. A sharp pain shot through her leg. She stumbled. Her knee gave out. She collapsed onto the pavement.

Spectators gasped. Officials rushed toward her. She tried to stand, but the pain was too intense. Tears filled her eyes as she realized—she wouldn’t be able to finish.

Disappointment hit her like a wave. “Lord, why now?” she thought.

Then, just as she was about to signal that she was out of the race, she saw another runner struggling a few feet ahead. It was a younger athlete, exhausted and on the verge of quitting.

Something stirred in Lily’s heart.

She may not have been able to finish the race for herself, but she could still help someone else finish theirs.

Summoning all her strength, Lily got up and limped toward the struggling runner. She placed a supportive arm around her and encouraged her forward. “You can do this,” she whispered.

Together, they crossed the finish line.

The crowd erupted in applause—not because Lily had won, but because she had shown what true victory looked like.

A Lesson in Faith and Selflessness

As Millie finished the story, she looked around at the Bible study group. The room was silent, filled with reflection. Then she opened her Bible and read aloud:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7

“Lily didn’t finish the race the way she had planned,” Millie said, “but she finished the race God had set before her. She helped someone else cross the finish line, and in doing so, she fulfilled something even greater than personal victory.”

She then turned to Ecclesiastes 9:11:

“The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong.”

“This verse reminds us that winning in life isn’t about being the fastest or the strongest. It’s about endurance. It’s about faith. It’s about trusting God’s plan—even when things don’t go the way we expected.”

Faith in Action

Millie then pulled up a website on her tablet and turned it to the group. Active.com, a popular fitness and training site, had published an article about triathlons. It talked about the importance of perseverance, training smart, and finding motivation.

“This website teaches people how to train for races like Lily’s,” Millie explained. “But the most important thing we can train is our faith.”

She pointed to the final verse of the night, Galatians 6:9:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

“Lily didn’t give up on her training, and she didn’t give up when things got tough. But most importantly, she didn’t grow weary in doing good. She put someone else’s needs above her own, and that’s what made her truly victorious.”

Applying the Lesson

Millie closed the Bible and looked at the group.

“So I ask you all—what race are you running? Maybe you’ve been training for something, working toward a goal, and now you’re facing setbacks. Maybe you feel like you’re failing. Maybe you’re questioning whether it’s all worth it.”

She smiled gently.

“Let me remind you—God sees your effort. And even if your journey doesn’t go as planned, He has a greater purpose. Maybe your victory won’t come through personal success but through the impact you make on others.”

That night, as the Bible study ended, many left feeling encouraged. Lily’s story had reminded them that faith isn’t just about finishing first. It’s about perseverance, trust, and most importantly, love—the kind of love that lifts others up, even when we are struggling ourselves.

And that, Millie knew, was the greatest race of all.

Bethesda Church Conference, Maryland

March 10, 2025
Guest Speaker: Allison

On the evening of March 10, 2025, the Bethesda Community Church gathered for their annual conference. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation as believers from different walks of life came together to hear a word of encouragement. This year’s guest speaker, Allison, had a powerful message to share, one that resonated deeply with both the young and the old.

As she stepped onto the stage, Allison smiled warmly at the congregation. “I want to share a story with you tonight,” she began. “A story of perseverance, faith, and trusting in God’s perfect plan.”

She took a deep breath and continued.

Mia, a young woman from right here in Bethesda, Maryland, grew up in a house filled with competition and encouragement. With three older brothers, she quickly learned how to hold her own in the world of sports. Basketball became her passion, not just because she was naturally talented but because her family supported her. Her father, a former basketball coach, took great pride in training her. He believed she had the potential to play professionally, and he poured his knowledge into her every chance he got.

But one day, Mia stumbled across something new—mixed martial arts. She was drawn to the discipline, the challenge, and the strength it demanded. She admired the mental toughness and strategy required, much like basketball but with a different intensity. Suddenly, a question formed in her heart: “Am I meant to follow the path my family expects, or is God calling me to something else?”

Her father, upon hearing of her interest in MMA, was hesitant. “Mia, basketball is where you shine. You have a future in it.”

“But Dad,” Mia replied, “I want to see what else I’m capable of. I want to challenge myself.”

It was a difficult decision. Mia didn’t want to disappoint her father, but something about MMA intrigued her. So, with determination, she trained for both sports, balancing early morning basketball drills with late-night MMA sessions.

For six months, she pushed herself harder than ever before. She prayed for guidance, asking God to reveal His will. There were days she felt exhausted, unsure if she was making the right choice. But through it all, she held onto the promise in Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

One evening, after an intense training session, Mia sat alone on the court, the sound of a bouncing basketball echoing through the empty gym. As she dribbled, she realized something—her heart still belonged to basketball. While she enjoyed MMA, it wasn’t where she truly thrived. The thrill of guiding a team, the way the game connected people, the lessons of teamwork and leadership—those were the things she loved most.

So, she made her decision. She would return fully to basketball.

With renewed purpose, Mia focused on coaching. She took on a local youth team, determined to give back to the next generation of players. Under her leadership, the team flourished, and before long, they found themselves competing in the state championship.

Then came the twist no one expected.

On the night of the final game, as Mia stood courtside, giving her team last-minute encouragement, she noticed a familiar face among the opposing team’s coaches. It was one of her former MMA opponents.

The two locked eyes, sharing a knowing smile.

After the game—a victory for Mia’s team—the opposing coach approached her. “You chose basketball,” she said. “But you never lost your fighter’s spirit.”

Mia laughed. “I guess I just fight differently now.”

The two engaged in a playful, respectful face-off—a nod to the paths they had both chosen. The moment was lighthearted but carried a powerful message: Our journeys may take us in different directions, but God’s plan is always greater than our own.

As Allison finished the story, the church was silent for a moment, reflecting on Mia’s journey. Then, a wave of applause and “Amen”s filled the sanctuary.

“My friends,” Allison continued, “this story isn’t just about basketball or MMA. It’s about listening to God’s call. It’s about fighting the good fight of faith.”

She opened her Bible and read from 1 Timothy 6:12:

“Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called.”

“Some of you may be standing at a crossroads like Mia was,” Allison said. “You may be wondering if you should follow the path expected of you or if God is leading you somewhere new. Let me remind you—the Lord is your strength and your shield. He will guide you.”

She read from Psalm 28:7:

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.”

That night, many in the congregation felt renewed in their faith. Some young athletes were inspired to trust in God’s plan for their careers. Others who had been struggling with life decisions felt peace knowing that, just like Mia, they could rely on the Lord for direction.

Before closing, Allison left them with a final thought.

“God’s plan for you is greater than anything you could imagine. When you trust Him, even when the road seems uncertain, He will lead you exactly where you need to be.”

The Bethesda Church Conference ended with a powerful time of prayer, and many left feeling strengthened and encouraged. Mia’s story, though just one among many, served as a reminder that faith, perseverance, and trusting in God’s plan will always lead to victory.
