Parenting Tips from Columbia: Building Strong Family Bonds

On the evening of March 10, 2025, the congregation of Columbia Community Church gathered for a special prayer meeting focused on the topic of parenting. The meeting, held in the church’s fellowship hall, was well-attended by families from the local community, drawn together by a shared commitment to raising children in a nurturing and faith-filled environment. The speaker for the evening was Sue, a respected member of the church and a seasoned counselor with extensive experience in family dynamics.

Sue began her address by acknowledging the unique character of Columbia, a planned community that was originally designed as a magnet for businesses and families seeking an affordable, convenient place to live and work. “Columbia is not just a city,” Sue said. “It’s a vibrant community that offers diverse housing options, a robust economy, and access to some of the best schools in the state. With parks, recreational facilities, and a thriving arts and entertainment scene, Columbia truly has something for everyone. As parents, we are blessed to raise our children in such a nurturing environment.”

The meeting opened with a heartfelt prayer, asking for wisdom and strength for parents navigating the joys and challenges of raising children in today’s fast-paced world. Sue then shared personal stories and practical insights, emphasizing the importance of creating meaningful family experiences. She encouraged parents to take advantage of local treasures like Lake Kittamaqundi, a serene 27-acre lake with a paved 2.5-mile trail. “Imagine taking a leisurely stroll with your children, enjoying the beauty of nature, and engaging in open conversations free from distractions,” Sue suggested. “It’s these moments that build lasting bonds.”

Sue also highlighted the value of community spaces such as The Mall in Columbia. “Shopping trips can be more than just errands. They can be opportunities to teach responsibility, decision-making, and gratitude,” she explained. “Plus, with over 200 specialty shops and dining options, there’s something for everyone.”

In addition to physical spaces, Sue spoke about the importance of creating a loving and faith-centered home environment. She encouraged parents to instill values of kindness, patience, and respect, drawing inspiration from biblical teachings. “As it says in Proverbs 22:6, ‘Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’ This scripture reminds us of the profound impact our guidance can have on our children’s future.”

Following her talk, the congregation divided into small groups for prayer and discussion. Parents shared personal experiences and offered support to one another. Many expressed gratitude for the local dining gem, Sushi Sono, which not only serves fresh and delicious Japanese cuisine but also offers stunning views of Lake Kittamaqundi. “Sometimes, a family dinner out can be a way to unwind and reconnect,” one parent noted.

As the evening drew to a close, the church pastor led the final prayer, asking for God’s blessing on all families and the community of Columbia. The event left attendees feeling uplifted and equipped with practical strategies for nurturing their children’s faith and well-being.

In the words of Sue, “Parenting is a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. But with God’s guidance and the support of our community, we can raise compassionate, confident, and faith-filled children who will thrive in the beautiful town of Columbia.”

Prayer Meeting for Boise

Speaker: Gracie

Gracie stood before the gathered community in Boise, a city known as the “City of Trees,” and welcomed everyone to the prayer meeting. The sanctuary was filled with expectant hearts, all ready to seek God’s presence and direction.

Opening Prayer

“Dear Heavenly Father, we gather before You today with hearts full of gratitude for this beautiful city of Boise. Thank You for the blessings You have bestowed upon us—our families, our homes, and the natural beauty that surrounds us. As we lift our voices in prayer, we ask for Your guidance, wisdom, and grace. Let Your presence fill this place and our hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

A Vision for Boise

Gracie spoke of the prophetic visions that had been given long before Jon moved to Oregon. These visions spoke of a harvest—of fire descending upon the land and rain breaking the long drought. She encouraged the people to see Boise as a place ripe for spiritual awakening.

“Our city is growing, both in numbers and in influence,” she said. “It’s a place where urban life meets the untouched beauty of God’s creation. Just as the Sawtooth Mountains stand tall beyond our neighborhoods, we must stand tall in faith, ready to embrace the Lord’s call.”

She reminded them of the city’s treasures—the Boise River, the foothills, and the arts. “This is a place where God’s creativity is reflected in nature and culture alike. Let us pray that Boise not only thrives economically and culturally, but also spiritually.”

Repentance and Renewal

Gracie led the congregation in a time of repentance.

“Maybe some of us have been bound by desires, overwhelmed by struggles, or caught in routines that have lost their joy. Just as Moab remained at ease and never knew captivity, let us not become complacent. Lord, stir our spirits! Pour us from vessel to vessel so we may not settle in spiritual stagnation.”

As the people bowed their heads, she prayed, “God, forgive us for the times we have placed our security outside of You. We acknowledge that our true security is found only in abiding in Christ. May we be a people who live in Your truth, unwavering in our faith.”

A Call to Action

Gracie’s voice grew passionate. “Boise is a city of movement, adventure, and creativity. But what good is all this activity if our hearts are not set on the Lord? We must be a light in this city, a beacon of hope for those searching for truth.”

She encouraged the congregation to step out in faith. “Just as the church in November of 1990 grew to hold thousands, we too must be ready to grow—not just in numbers, but in spiritual depth. God is calling us to faithfulness, not just on Sundays, but in every aspect of our lives.”

Intercession for the City

As the meeting continued, the congregation lifted their prayers for Boise.

  • “Lord, bless our leaders and decision-makers. May they govern with wisdom and integrity.”
  • “God, let Your presence be known in every corner of this city, from the bustling streets of downtown to the peaceful trails of Harrison Hollow.”
  • “Father, we pray for the churches in Boise. Let them be rooted in Your Word, committed to teaching the truth, and bold in sharing the Gospel.”
  • “We ask for Your protection over our community. Keep our children safe, strengthen our families, and heal those who are struggling.”

A Word of Encouragement

Gracie reminded them of Revelation 21:5-7.

“God is making all things new. Just as the seasons change in Boise—from the hot summers to the crisp winters—so too is God at work in our lives. Let us not fear change, but embrace it, knowing that He is with us.”

She continued, “Some of you may feel like you’re wandering in the wilderness, much like the children of Israel. But I want to tell you—God has an inheritance for you. Do not remain a spiritual pauper when God has prepared a glorious future for you.”

Closing Prayer and Benediction

Gracie raised her hands as she prayed over the congregation.

“Father, as we leave this place, let us carry Your presence with us. May we be a light in Boise, a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. Strengthen us to stand firm in faith, to live in truth, and to love as You have loved us. We give You all the praise, for You alone are worthy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

As the meeting ended, people lingered, talking and praying together, filled with renewed purpose. The city of Boise, known for its beauty and growth, had now become a place of revival in their hearts. And as they walked out into the cool Boise night, they carried with them the assurance that God was at work in their city.

Nancy had a dream about Wailua Homesteads

Nancy had never experienced a dream so vivid, so undeniably real. It was as if she had been transported to another place, yet everything around her was familiar—the lush landscapes, the rolling hills, and the comforting serenity of Wailua Homesteads. She could feel the warm Hawaiian breeze on her skin and hear the gentle rustle of palm trees swaying in the wind. The eastern side of Kauai, known for its beauty, stretched before her in vibrant colors, and the peace she felt was unlike anything she had known.

As she walked along a narrow path, she noticed the golden hues of the morning sun casting a glow upon the town. Wailua Homesteads, a small community of just over 7,000 people, felt even more intimate in her dream. She could sense the kindness and warmth of the people, the deep-rooted love that bound the community together. It was a place where families thrived, where children laughed freely, unburdened by the fears of the outside world. The crime rates were low, and peace covered the town like a protective veil.

But as Nancy ventured further, she saw something unusual—a beautiful home perched atop a hill, overlooking the breathtaking landscape. The home stood tall and inviting, yet something about it felt sacred. She stepped closer, her heart pounding with anticipation. As she reached the door, it swung open, and a gentle voice called to her, “Come in, my child.”

Inside, she found a radiant figure clothed in white, sitting in the center of the room. A great light surrounded Him, and though His face was not entirely visible, she knew—this was the presence of the Lord. Overcome with awe, Nancy fell to her knees. The air in the room was filled with a divine fragrance, and a deep sense of love and peace enveloped her.

The Lord spoke softly yet powerfully, “Nancy, my daughter, I have shown you this place because I am calling my people back to their first love. Too many have wandered, chasing after things that do not satisfy. But here, in this place of stillness, I am found.”

Tears streamed down Nancy’s face as she listened. “But Lord,” she whispered, “what can I do? I am just one person.”

The Lord’s voice resonated like a gentle wave, “You do not have to do it alone. Just as this town is built on a foundation of love and unity, so too must my people come together. Tell them, Nancy, that I am calling them to return to me. I have prepared a place for them, a sanctuary of peace.”

As the Lord spoke, Nancy saw visions of people gathering, lifting their hands in worship, filling the streets with praise. She saw families being restored, children playing in safety, and hearts turning back to God. The town of Wailua Homesteads became a place of divine presence, where people sought refuge in the arms of the Lord. Even the Kauai Hindu Monastery, known for meditation and spiritual healing, seemed to echo the call for deeper intimacy with God.

The Lord continued, “The beauty of this land is a reflection of my creation, but true beauty is found in a heart fully surrendered to me. The world seeks after material wealth, but my people will find joy in my presence. The hills, the ocean, the mountains—they all declare my glory. Let them look beyond what they see and find the eternal riches of my Kingdom.”

Nancy’s heart burned within her. She understood now—this was not just a dream, but a divine commission. She had been shown a vision of what could be if the people of Wailua Homesteads and beyond turned their hearts back to the Lord.

Before she could speak, the scene began to shift. She found herself standing on one of the highest peaks in the area, overlooking the vast expanse of Kauai. The wind wrapped around her like an embrace, and the Lord’s voice echoed once more, “Guard what I have entrusted to you. The time is now. The harvest is ready. Go and tell them.”

And just like that, Nancy awoke.

Her heart was pounding, her breath shallow. She sat up in bed, still feeling the presence of the Lord around her. The dream had been so real—every detail vivid, every word spoken directly to her soul. She knew she could not keep this to herself. She had been given a message, and she had to share it.

The next morning, Nancy gathered a small group from her church and recounted everything she had seen and heard. As she spoke, tears filled the eyes of those listening. They too felt the weight of the message, the urgency in the Lord’s words.

“We must return to Him,” Nancy declared. “We must make this place more than just a beautiful town. We must make it a sanctuary, a dwelling place for God’s presence. He is calling us back to our first love.”

From that day on, a revival began to stir in Wailua Homesteads. People began to gather for prayer, seeking the Lord earnestly. The town, already known for its natural beauty, became known for something far greater—the presence of God among His people. Homes became places of worship, and the streets echoed with songs of praise.

Nancy’s dream had not only changed her life—it had awakened a town to the call of God. And as they answered, they found what they had always longed for—not just safety, not just breathtaking views, but the everlasting peace of dwelling in the presence of their Creator.
