Christian Book Club in Kailua – Oahu

It was a sunny Thursday evening when Jessica, a longtime resident of Kailua, opened the door to a cozy living room filled with familiar faces from the local Christian book club. The group had been gathering for months, sharing insights from their reading and offering prayers, and tonight, they would be discussing a book on spiritual resilience.

“Welcome, everyone,” Jessica began, her warm smile lighting up the room. “It’s so good to see you all here tonight. I hope you’re ready to dive into another meaningful discussion.”

The group exchanged greetings, and as the conversation settled, Jessica got right to the topic. “Tonight, we’re going to reflect on how our community, our faith, and our authority in Christ can guide us through the challenges of life. And as we reflect, let’s also consider how God places us where He wants us—whether in busy urban hubs like Kailua or more tranquil settings.”

Kailua, just a short drive from Honolulu, was an incredible place for families seeking both urban vibrancy and peaceful surroundings. Jessica shared her perspective. “You know, Kailua represents an interesting balance. On one hand, it’s just minutes away from the excitement of the city, with shopping, dining, and the occasional nightlife to enjoy. Yet, on the other hand, it offers a sense of tranquility that you wouldn’t expect from such a popular suburb.”

As she spoke, she could see that the group, familiar with Kailua’s charming streets, beaches, and vibrant community, nodded in agreement. The area was known for its scenic beauty, with some of Hawaii’s most breathtaking beaches and outdoor spaces. “Kailua is a town where families can have it all,” she continued. “It offers a safe, community-centered environment with great schools, and even though it’s become a tourist hotspot, it’s still a place where families can thrive.”

Despite its many advantages, the cost of living in Kailua was not easy to ignore. Jessica pointed out, “One thing to consider, though, is that it’s not the most affordable place to live. The cost of living here is higher than most parts of Hawaii, which can be challenging for some families.”

The group, now gathered in their usual circle, listened intently. They all knew that Kailua’s median home price hovered around $1.2 million, a figure that seemed daunting for many people. “It’s hard to ignore the reality of the housing market here,” Jessica said with a slight pause. “But it’s also a reminder that God has a unique plan for each of us, no matter where we live. Our faith, our relationship with Him, helps us face the challenges that come with every season of life.”

One of the group members, Sarah, spoke up thoughtfully. “I’ve been thinking a lot about how our community here is so safe. Crime is so low in Kailua compared to the rest of Hawaii. It’s an interesting blessing, really. We’re able to walk our streets with a sense of peace that many people don’t have in other parts of the world. Isn’t that just a reflection of God’s love for us?”

Jessica nodded, smiling at Sarah’s comment. “That’s exactly right. It reminds me of how Jesus teaches us in the Bible to find peace even when things around us feel uncertain. Peace comes from knowing that we are His, and He watches over us.”

The group then discussed the blessing of strong, supportive communities like Kailua’s, where schools were highly rated and children were given the best opportunities to grow. “Even as the area grows more expensive, I can’t help but see how God has worked in our schools, our local businesses, and even the relationships we build here,” Jessica said. “It’s a place where the Spirit of God is alive in the hearts of so many people, and that makes all the difference.”

Jessica encouraged the group to reflect on their own experiences and the way they had seen God’s provision in their lives, even when circumstances seemed tough. “Sometimes, we can get caught up in how difficult it is to live in a place like Kailua with its high prices. But when we focus on God’s Word and trust His timing, we see that He’s given us everything we need. Our faith in Him provides the resilience we need to overcome any challenge.”

Her words resonated with everyone in the group, especially when considering the dynamics of living in a town like Kailua. Despite the cost of living, it was a place that offered beauty, safety, and connection. And Jessica reminded everyone, “Wherever God places us, whether it’s in a bustling town like Kailua or somewhere quieter, He calls us to be His ambassadors. We’re meant to spread peace, love, and light, no matter the price or challenge.”

As the meeting wound down, the members of the book club prayed together, thankful for the blessings of community and the reminder that, no matter the cost of living or the pressures of the world, God’s love and authority were always greater.

“I think we can all agree that we’ve been given the authority to be where we are, and it’s our responsibility to make the most of it,” Jessica concluded, her voice full of gratitude. “Let’s keep trusting God, and let’s never forget that we are His chosen people, empowered to live out His purpose, whether in Kailua or anywhere else.”

The meeting ended on a note of peace, with hearts uplifted and spirits refreshed, ready to take on the challenges of life with unwavering faith.

The Anchor of Faith: Mystic Community Church Newsletter

Written by Mila

Greetings, dear brothers and sisters in Christ! As we continue to walk in faith this season, I am reminded of the beauty of our town, Mystic, and how it reflects the richness of God’s creation. From the ebb and flow of the Mystic River to the steadfastness of our historic landmarks, we see His handiwork all around us. This month’s newsletter is filled with stories of faith, encouragement, and updates on what God is doing in our community.

A Season of Restoration and Healing

Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed an incredible move of God’s healing power. A young woman in our congregation, Sarah, recently shared her testimony of overcoming a long battle with illness. Through prayer and faith, she experienced a miraculous recovery, reminding us of the truth found in Exodus 15:26, where God declares, “I am the Lord who heals you.” As we reflect on her story, let us be encouraged that no sickness or struggle is beyond the touch of our Savior.

Similarly, in the Book of Acts, we read how the early church walked in the power of the Holy Spirit, bringing healing and transformation to all who believed. We, too, are called to step forward in faith, knowing that Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of sickness. If you or a loved one are in need of prayer, please join us at our weekly healing and intercession gathering every Wednesday evening at 6 PM in the main sanctuary.

Mystic: A Reflection of God’s Wonder

As we approach spring, many of us take the opportunity to explore our beautiful maritime town. Mystic is truly a treasure, offering glimpses into the past while providing spaces for community and fellowship. The Mystic Seaport Museum, with its historic ships and recreated 19th-century village, reminds us of the importance of perseverance, much like our walk with Christ. Just as sailors depended on the stars to navigate the open waters, we must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the ultimate guiding light.

A short walk from the museum brings us to the Mystic Aquarium, where the wonders of ocean life are displayed in full glory. Watching the sea lions and beluga whales reminds us of the majesty of God’s creation. Psalm 104:24 says, “How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom, you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.” What a powerful reminder that our God is the ultimate artist and architect!

Faith in Action: Serving Our Community

Last month, our outreach team had the privilege of hosting a community service day at the Olde Mistick Village. Volunteers helped clean up common areas, assisted small businesses with organizing their storefronts, and engaged in conversations with visitors about God’s love. This initiative was a beautiful representation of Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Following our service day, many of us gathered at The Jealous Monk, a local beer garden, for a time of fellowship. This laid-back setting allowed us to share testimonies, encourage one another, and build relationships outside the church walls. Jesus often met people in everyday places, and our time together reminded us of the importance of bringing faith into all areas of life.

Standing on the Promises of God

Scripture teaches us that God’s promises are all-encompassing. Just as the Mystic River Bascule Bridge stands firm, connecting both sides of our beloved town, God’s promises connect us to His truth, love, and provision. The Bible is filled with all-inclusive promises, assuring us of healing, guidance, and victory over challenges.

Romans 8:37 declares, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” No matter what battles we face—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—we stand victorious in Christ. Let us hold fast to this truth as we continue to trust in His plans.

Upcoming Events & Encouragement

  • Women’s Bible Study: Every Monday at 7 PM in the fellowship hall. This month, we will be diving into the Book of Proverbs, seeking God’s wisdom for our daily lives.
  • Men’s Fellowship Breakfast: Saturday, February 24th at 9 AM at Mystic Diner. A time of encouragement and camaraderie.
  • Youth Night at The Mystic Museum of Art: Friday, March 1st at 6 PM. A creative evening of faith, art, and fellowship. All teens are welcome!

As we continue through this season, let us remember that our lives are a testimony to the goodness of God. Whether we are serving in our community, sharing a meal with friends, or admiring the beauty of our town, every moment is an opportunity to glorify Him.

Blessings to you all,

Mila

Bible Study in Chandler, Arizona

As the sun sets on another warm evening in Chandler, a group of believers gathered in the heart of the city for a time of Bible study and fellowship. Chandler, a city known for its mix of urban amenities and laid-back living, became the backdrop for a deeper exploration into faith, community, and God’s will for the lives of its residents.

Chandler, located just 30 minutes southeast from downtown Phoenix, offers a unique blend of old and new. The city has deep agricultural and industrial roots, and those who seek to understand its history can visit places like the Chandler Museum and the Arizona Railway Museum. But as we gathered in prayer and study, we were reminded that just like Chandler’s history, our lives too can be filled with chapters of change and renewal. While Chandler has seen a transformation from agricultural land to a tech hub, so too can our hearts experience spiritual renewal as we embrace God’s plan for our lives.

The evening began with a reading from Psalm 51, where David cries out for renewal and a clean heart, saying, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). This passage reminded us of the importance of spiritual renewal, something that is just as vital for us today as it was for David. In Chandler, the growth and change around us can serve as a reminder of the transformation that can happen within our own lives when we open ourselves to God’s guidance.

As we continued, we reflected on the community we live in. Chandler, though growing in industry and technology with massive Intel campuses and other electronic engineering firms, still has a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere. Much like Chandler’s mix of the modern and the tranquil, our spiritual lives often require a balance of productivity and peace. The busy work of life—whether it’s in the office, at home, or in the community—can pull us in many directions, but we must always remember to take time to rest in the presence of the Lord.

One of the key themes of the evening was the power of prayer and trust in God during times of transition. Just as Chandler has changed and adapted over the years, we too go through seasons of change, whether it’s in our jobs, relationships, or personal lives. In these times of uncertainty, we must remember to trust God’s plan for us. Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” We are reminded that even when we don’t understand the changes happening around us, God’s plan is always greater.

Chandler is also a city that enjoys the excitement of professional sports, with the Cactus League MLB Spring Training games bringing energy and enthusiasm every year. This excitement parallels the zeal we are called to have for God’s work in our lives. As believers, we should bring the same energy and excitement to our faith as sports fans bring to their favorite teams. But instead of cheering for a team, we are cheering for the Kingdom of God and working together to spread His word and love to those around us. As 1 Corinthians 9:24 says, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” Our goal is to live with purpose and passion, striving towards the prize of eternal life with Christ.

One interesting feature of Chandler is its proximity to the Gila River Indian Reservation, which lies to the south and west of the city. This proximity invites us to reflect on the importance of understanding and respecting the communities around us, and how God calls us to love our neighbors—whether they are from our own city or from other backgrounds and walks of life. Jesus made it clear in the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) that our neighbors are not just those who are like us, but anyone who may be in need of our help and compassion. As we live in Chandler, with its diverse and growing population, let us remember the call to love and serve those around us.

We also took time to reflect on the luxurious neighborhoods in Chandler, such as Ocotillo, built around a beautiful golf course. It was a reminder of the importance of community—how God places us in different areas of life to work together, build relationships, and support each other. Just as a golf course is shaped by design, our lives are shaped by God’s intention. We are called to be good stewards of the resources and relationships God gives us, and to use them for His glory.

As the evening drew to a close, we spent time in prayer, asking God to give us a heart for growth, transformation, and service. Just as Chandler is a place that has seen many changes over the years—where new industries rise, and old histories are celebrated—so too can we experience personal growth and spiritual renewal in our own lives. With God’s help, we can navigate the changes we face with faith, trust, and a heart of service.

In closing, we left the Bible study with a renewed sense of purpose, knowing that God has a plan for each of us in Chandler. Whether we’re called to serve in our careers, in our families, or in our communities, we can rest in the knowledge that God’s presence is with us, guiding us through every season of life. And just like Chandler continues to grow and evolve, so too can our faith grow, allowing us to embrace new opportunities and face challenges with strength and perseverance.
